2005 - The Year of Schiller in Baden-Württemberg
Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805) - one of the most important classical writers - is Baden-Württemberg's greatest son. This Swabian region in which Schiller spent half his life was to have a very strong influence on his future literary career.
Schiller towns Marbach am Neckar, Lorch, Ludwigsburg, Stuttgart and Mannheim have combined forces to mark the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his death in 2005. They are presenting a large variety of events, productions and exhibitions relating to the life and work of the peace poet Friedrich Schiller, to be performed in the very places Schiller spent his youth:

Furthermore, Baden-Württemberg also has an abundance of other cultural events on offer. Around 60 different places have joined together under the collective banner of Baden-Württemberg: land of culture.
