Memories of Schiller
After his family moved to Ludwigsburg, Friedrich Schiller attended grammar school for six years. During a journey in Swabian country that lasted several months in 1793/94, the renowned professor and famous poet lived in Ludwigsburg again.
In the "Year Of Schiller" programme, visitors can experience the poet at every turn. One event not to be missed is the "Schiller journey" at Stuttgart's state theatre from 7th May, and from 15th September at the civic theatre, which allows visitors to experience theatre at the places which were influential in the life and works of Schiller. Visitors can also enjoy the contributions from the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival, theatre performances, art and literature activities, guided tours and recitals in this anniversary year, as part of a weekend deal.

| The 30 or more hectares which comprise the castle grounds play host to magnificent landscape design from different eras and regions, a succession of different exhibitions and the children’s fairytale garden paradise. Take a walk around the gardens and discover a landscape full of the “blooming” splendour of the baroque age; stroll through the chestnut tree-lined avenues which are so characteristic of Ludwigsburg; or simply wander around the English and Japanese Gardens. |
